Job Description
Elanco is hiring a Lead Platform Engineer to join their software engineering team. The role focuses on developing full-stack, scalable distributed solutions using modern cloud-native technologies. The engineer will contribute to platform engineering capabilities, implement DevSecOps practices, define testing strategies, and help shape developer patterns using infrastructure as code. The position requires 10+ years of experience with modern application architecture, 5+ years with cloud-native design patterns (preferably Azure/Google Cloud), and expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js.

Role
The Lead Platform Engineer is part of our software engineering team established to deliver engineering expertise to business-facing products and services. You will be deployed into a multi-disciplined product team applying your software engineering talent to Elanco's biggest opportunities, covering SaaS, Commercial-off-the-Shelf (CotS), and custom developed applications.
Responsibilities
•Contribute to growing engineering capabilities across Software and Platform Engineering within a diverse engineering organization.
•Develop full-stack solutions, building highly scalable distributed systems that enable positive user experiences and measurable business growth.
•Implement and support modern digital products that are technologically sound, avoid technical debt, guarantee compliance, and enable required business outcomes.
•Shape Horizon software developer patterns leveraging infrastructure as code and providing opinionated guidance that gets developers across the enterprise started faster.
•Define the testing strategy for projects, including various types of testing, and implement automated testing frameworks.
•Assess risks early in the product discovery process, considering time constraints, available skills and technologies, and potential technical debt.
•Use modern product approaches to influence and shape the business through partnership with product management and digital product delivery, including rapid prototyping and a show them, don't tell them culture.
Minimum Qualifications
•Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
•10+ years of experience working with modern application architecture methodologies.
•5+ years of experience working with Cloud Native design patterns, with a preference towards Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
•8+ years of experience designing and delivering digital solutions following a product mindset and a variety of delivery methodologies such as Agile and CCPM.
•5+ years of experience working within a DevSecOps culture, including CI/CD and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
•Familiarity or experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), such as Terraform.
•Operational experience having supported and iterated on custom built applications.
•Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and/or Node.js.
•Passion for simplicity and great Developer Experience.
•Experience scaling an API ecosystem, designing and implementing API-First integration patterns.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience defining and implementing large-scale, transformative digital solutions.
•Experience working in complex, diverse landscapes spanning business, technology, regulatory, partners, providers, and geographies.
•Experience with software deployment capabilities including Kubernetes.
•Experience in a Platform Engineering team.
