Job Description
The University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts is hiring a Student Communications Intern to support their communications team. The role involves creating and managing content across multiple channels including social media, photography, video, and web content to showcase Fine Arts students, programs, performances, and events. The intern will research, write, conduct interviews, create visual content, and manage social media calendars. This is a 10-hour per week position running from September 2026 through May 2027 at $18/hour, open to work-study and non-work-study students.
Overview
The College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a creative and engaged student to support the college's communications team. The Student Communications Intern will help tell the stories of Fine Arts students, programs, performances, exhibitions, research and events through social media, photography, video, graphics and web content.
This position is especially well suited for a student who is connected to the Fine Arts community and interested in communications, storytelling, social media or digital content production. Preference may be given to students pursuing a major or minor within the College of Fine Arts.
Responsibilities
•Research, conduct interviews and write news stories and features for the web.
•Capture photos and short videos at selected performances, exhibitions, rehearsals, lectures, student activities and college events.
•Develop social media content featuring Fine Arts students, programs, spaces and experiences.
•Help identify student stories, campus activities, trends and conversations relevant to College of Fine Arts audiences.
•Pitch ideas for recurring social media features and student-centered content series.
•Assist with maintaining the college's social media and editorial calendars.
•Resize and format graphics, photographs and videos for different communications channels.
•Add captions to videos and help ensure digital content meets accessibility standards.
•Assist with basic photo and video editing.
•Help organize photographs, videos and other digital assets.
•Support communications staff during occasional photo or video shoots.
•Research social media trends and recommend ways they might be adapted for a university audience.
•Compile basic social media performance information and help identify successful content.
•Provide a student perspective on communications plans, messages and campaigns.
•Perform other communications-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
•Must be a University of Texas at Austin student enrolled for at least 6 credit hours.
•Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
•Familiarity with major social media platforms, particularly Instagram.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to manage assignments and meet deadlines with appropriate supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
•Major or minor in the College of Fine Arts.
•Familiarity with College of Fine Arts programs, student organizations, performances, exhibitions or events.
•Experience creating social media content for an organization, student group, personal creative account or professional setting.
•Experience with Canva or similar design and editing tools.
•Basic photography, videography or video-editing experience.
•Experience working in a website content management system.
•Familiarity with accessibility practices, including video captions and alternative text.
•Strong awareness of student interests, campus culture and current digital-media practices.
•Formal professional experience is not required; applicants may demonstrate abilities through coursework, student organizations, personal projects, creative portfolios or social media accounts.
Compensation and Schedule
•Hourly rate: $18.00/hr
•Weekly hours: 10
•Standard 8am to 5pm office hours with possible nights and weekend assignments.
•Position runs September 1, 2026 through May 9, 2027.
•Open to both Work-Study and Non-Work-Study applicants.
