Role Summary
The Grant Program Manager offers a dynamic opportunity to drive strategic funding initiatives and maximize grant opportunities for departments within assigned business units. This role serves as a trusted partner to leadership and investigators, orchestrating pre- and post-award management of high-impact grants and awards (five to seven figures) from foundations, corporations, and government entities. The position collaborates with the Henry Ford Health Development Office to ensure enterprise-wide alignment while maintaining rigorous compliance with regulatory, funding agency, and organizational standards.
This role balances strategic opportunity identification (15-20% of time) with comprehensive award administration and compliance management (80-85% of time).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
•Oversee pre-award and post-award activities for state and federal grants, foundation awards, and sub-awardee initiatives, ensuring seamless execution and regulatory compliance across assigned business units.
•Proactively discover and evaluate grant funding sources aligned with departmental strategic priorities and partner with internal stakeholders to develop compelling, fundable proposals.
•Build and manage robust systems to monitor grant opportunities, submissions, awards, reports, and critical deadlines, ensuring full compliance with RFP and contractual requirements.
•Oversee sub-awardee contracts, statements of work, reporting requirements, and deliverables to ensure accountability and successful project outcomes.
•Develop strategic grant budgets, monitor financial performance against approved budgets, process reimbursement requests, and prepare comprehensive financial reports and grant statements.
•Build strong partnerships with grant-seeking entities across the health system, the Development Office, Fund Accounting, and corporate services.
•Deliver specialized guidance and technical assistance to departments to navigate complex grant requirements and maximize funding potential.
•Develop and maintain positive, strategic relationships with current and prospective funders to support long-term funding partnerships.
Education and Experience Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in a related field.
•Four or more years of experience in pre- and post-award grant management including progress reporting, subcontract management, grant finance and accounting, and compliance requirements for multiple award types including federal grants.
•Experience independently managing large grant awards.
•Experience producing proposals including grant writing and managing grant and other funding awards, including federal grants.
•Experience managing and coordinating administrative projects across multiple team members and partner agencies.
•Experience interpreting financial data and preparing budgets, financial grant reports, statements, and projections.
•Experience producing detailed grant progress reports for large awards.
•Excellent project management and organizational skills with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results with attention to detail.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal, and university regulations.
•Knowledge of federal, state, and community funding sources and mechanisms including potential sources of health-related funding.
•Proficiency with personal computers and related software applications including database management.
•Ability to determine informational needs and collect and analyze information.
•Ability to conduct literature searches.
