Overview
Emery Jensen Distribution is seeking a Business Development Manager for the New England Region. This is a hunter role focused on expanding Emery Jensen's footprint across the Northeast by winning and converting high-value Pro Lumber, Paint, and Hardware customers. The ideal candidate lives near Albany, NY, Portland, ME, or Providence, RI.
The Role
As the Business Development Manager (BDM) for New England, you will be responsible for finding and signing new high-value customers across key customer channels: Pro Lumber, Pro Paint, and Hardware Stores/Home Centers. You will identify prospects, develop a pipeline, determine the needs of specific prospects, and present the Emery Jensen value proposition to meet those needs.
The BDM serves as an ambassador for Emery Jensen, developing relationships with industry organizations, vendor partners, and prospective customers. You will also work closely with the Emery Jensen sales team, helping new customers transition to their Territory Managers during the early months after signing.
Responsibilities
•Own the full 12-month sales cycle for new accounts and communicate effectively with local Territory Managers to ensure account growth to full potential
•Focus on full-conversion opportunities in which Emery Jensen becomes the primary distributor of hardware, paint, and/or fastener products
•Increase top-line sales while targeting prospective customers with company profitability in mind; understand ROI, customer lifetime value, and Emery Jensen's financial model
•Demonstrate understanding of the levers that create a profitable customer relationship and develop a sales approach around optimizing them
•Actively research, pursue, and open prospective customers within defined sales channels by clearly articulating and executing on the Emery Jensen value proposition
•Maintain a weekly prospect pipeline with measurable results
•Utilize EJD marketing and merchandising materials and initiatives to strategically present solutions to prospective customers
•Participate in national industry organizations such as NRLA and NLBMDA; attend industry events including shows and roundtables with an established approach aimed at signing prospective customers
•Proactively build relationships with field sales teams from national partners including LMC, LBMA, and Benjamin Moore
•Actively communicate with Territory Managers and develop transition plans for newly opened accounts
•Manage expenses related to travel, meetings, organization memberships, and conversion resources within established budgets
•Attend industry trade shows with a show plan to further business development efforts
Requirements
•College degree or equivalent required
•Minimum of 3 years in new business development or territory manager position
•Comfort with cold calling and a track record of success
•Knowledge and experience in the hard-lines industry preferred
•Existing book of business highly preferred
•Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Business Intelligence systems, and CRM tools
•Ability to travel 60-75% of the time
•Must reside near Albany, NY, Portland, ME, or Providence, RI
