CHOC Children's is seeking a payroll professional for a contract assignment role reporting to the Payroll Manager. The position involves managing bi-weekly payroll processing, resolving payroll discrepancies, handling employee inquiries, managing Kronos and Lawson systems, processing special payments, and assisting with payroll audits and reporting. The role requires high school diploma/GED with preferred accounting associate degree and experience with Lawson and Kronos systems.
Overview
CHOC Children's is looking for a payroll professional for a contract assignment role. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position will assist in payroll functions to ensure timely and accurate bi-weekly payroll processing for all Hospital and related entities. The role also involves answering and resolving customer service issues from Associates in a timely manner.
Essential Job Functions
•Perform daily payroll department operations
•Account for payroll discrepancies and ensure they are processed accurately and timely
•Process manual checks as needed
•Perform research on payroll related issues, including tax withholdings, overtime, LOAs, and garnishments
•Handle all calls and emails from throughout the organization within a timely manner
•Data entry in Kronos
•Adjust hours in Kronos for LOAs including any hours needed for edits (vacation, sick) and cancel meal penalties for pre-approved associates
•Evaluate existing audits and controls in Kronos for upgrades
•Assist in the design of various reports for Managers
•Audit and correct daily errors from Lawson that feed into Kronos
•Prepare requests for unclaimed payroll checks
•Prepare check requests for Accounts Payable and handle calls from associates regarding check status
•Audit checks and mail out to associates when received from AP
•Work closely with Human Resources Representatives
•Hold monthly reviews to assist with any questions that may arise
•Process retro payments for status changes and/or rate changes
•Process referral bonuses, relocation expenses, or sign-on bonuses
•Enter PTO donations approved by HR Director
•Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis
•Reconcile payroll prior to pulling time records into Lawson from Kronos
•Perform the 2-day payroll process of time cards, including time accrual verification, PTO payouts, benefit calculations, balancing of taxes, accruing for month end if needed, and printing, stuffing, and sorting of payroll checks
•Distribute checks
•Take on special projects as needed
•Participate in testing for system upgrades
Education
•High School Diploma or GED required
•Associates Degree in Accounting preferred
Experience and Skills
•Experience with Lawson Payroll Applications
•Experience with Kronos Time and Attendance Systems
•Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Proficient use of 10-key calculator
