Toyota Financial Services is hiring a Senior Lead Software Engineer - Frontend to build next-generation mobility products. This individual contributor principal-level role requires deep front-end expertise with React and Next.js, strong backend instincts, and technical leadership. Responsibilities include architecting front-end solutions, designing full-stack features, leading technical reviews, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering best practices across the organization. The position is based in Plano, TX and requires 7+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated principal or staff-level expertise.

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) is the finance and insurance brand for Toyota and Lexus in North America. TFS is building next-generation products that redefine mobility for millions of customers worldwide. Role Summary
We are looking for a Sr Lead Engineer - Frontend, an individual contributor at the principal level, who brings deep front-end expertise, strong backend instincts, and the technical leadership to raise the bar across the entire engineering organization. This is not a management role. You will shape architecture, mentor peers, dig into the hardest problems, and leave every codebase better than you found it.
Key Responsibilities
•Serve as the technical authority for front-end architecture across one or more product domains, making high-impact decisions on patterns, tooling, and standards
•Design, build, and maintain full-stack features from pixel-perfect UIs to the APIs and services that power them
•Lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and RFC processes, driving alignment across engineering teams
•Identify and resolve systemic issues including performance bottlenecks, reliability gaps, scaling constraints, and tech debt
•Own complex debugging and troubleshooting across the full stack from browser rendering issues to API latency to infrastructure misconfigurations
•Define and champion engineering best practices covering code quality, testing strategies, observability, and deployment safety
•Collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product, and Design to shape roadmaps and ensure technical feasibility
•Mentor and grow engineers at all levels through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and technical guidance
•Contribute to hiring by conducting technical interviews and helping define standards for front-end engineering
•Proactively communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to engineering and non-technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
•7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong front-end focus and a track record of operating at a principal or staff engineer level
•Deep expertise in React and Next.js including App Router, SSR, SSG, ISR, streaming, and advanced rendering patterns
•Strong proficiency in TypeScript with a habit of advocating for it across the codebase
•Hands-on experience with Tailwind CSS and component libraries such as shadcn/ui or similar design system tooling
•Solid command of state management patterns using Zustand, Redux Toolkit, or equivalent
•Experience with schema validation and form handling using Zod or similar libraries
•Proven ability to design, build, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs including contract design, versioning, error handling, and type-safe client generation such as tRPC or OpenAPI codegen
•Experience building serverless backend services on AWS including API Gateway and Lambda, CloudFront and Lambda@Edge, S3, and DynamoDB or RDS
•Strong understanding of front-end performance including Core Web Vitals, code splitting, lazy loading, image optimization, HTTP caching, SWR/React Query, and bundle analysis
•Deep experience debugging complex issues across the full stack using browser devtools, network traces, distributed tracing, log analysis, and profiling
•Experience with testing at all levels including unit testing with Vitest or Jest, component testing with Testing Library, integration testing, and E2E testing with Playwright or Cypress
•Familiarity with monorepo tooling such as Turborepo or Nx and modern build systems such as Vite, esbuild, or Webpack
•Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write clear RFCs and lead design reviews
Preferred Qualifications
•Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
•Experience in financial services, banking, or insurance industry
•Experience building and owning a design system or component library used across multiple teams
•Familiarity with micro-frontend architecture patterns
•Experience with event-driven architecture on AWS using EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and Lambda
•Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile development
•Exposure to GenAI tooling integration in front-end products such as streaming AI responses, prompt UIs, or RAG-powered features
•AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or Developer Associate
•Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source front-end projects
•Experience defining engineering standards, writing ADRs, or leading org-wide technical initiatives
