Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst position at National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. The role involves implementing and maintaining BI reporting tools, developing reports and dashboards, contributing to data governance, and providing analytics support for financial planning and enterprise reporting. The position requires a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience and proficiency with BI tools like Power BI, SSRS, or Tableau.
Overview
The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking a full-time Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst within the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO). This role sits in the Business Systems group and supports Financial Planning & Analysis. The analyst will implement and maintain BI reporting tools, develop reports and dashboards, contribute to data governance, troubleshoot BI issues, and help optimize enterprise reporting structures. The role also involves developing training materials and collaborating with NLR Information Technology Services (ITS) on data governance and delivery of OCFO data sets.
This is a remote, regular full-time position at 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
•Participate in discussions with stakeholders to define and document requirements for new reports and dashboards.
•Serve as a subject matter expert for data visualization, reporting best practices, and data management frameworks.
•Design and develop innovative dashboards and visualizations to improve decision-making and business processes.
•Conduct data analysis and modeling to identify trends, insights, and actionable recommendations.
•Develop and document business requirements for new data sets, reports, and dashboards.
•Perform testing and validation of reports and dashboards, ensuring adherence to business and technical requirements.
•Define, validate, and manage business definitions for data sets and reporting schemas.
•Collaborate with ITS to enhance data governance policies and ensure the accuracy and integrity of enterprise data.
•Contribute to the development of new data sets, ensuring alignment with business requirements and reporting needs.
•Provide troubleshooting and support for BI stakeholders and end-users.
•Support development and maintenance of system documentation and training materials.
•Contribute to creation and refinement of data governance policies and procedures.
•Support education and training for customers using available BI and reporting tools.
•Analyze new data sources for integration into the enterprise reporting framework.
•Recommend and implement enhancements to the OCFO BI reporting framework for improved performance and scalability.
•Actively contribute to cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment with OCFO objectives.
Basic Qualifications
•Relevant Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of experience, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
•Relevant Master's degree or equivalent relevant education and experience also accepted.
•Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
•This position requires access to Controlled Unclassified Information; applicants may be excluded based on citizenship in accordance with DOE O 471.7.
Required Skills and Abilities
•Basic understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field.
•Basic knowledge of database concepts, data modeling, and schema design.
•Basic knowledge of Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, or other reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with SQL coding for data extraction, transformation, and optimization.
•Experience with Python, including use of Pandas for data manipulation, cleansing, modeling, and automation.
•Experience working with parquet files for optimized compression, storage, and movement of large datasets.
•Experience with Oracle databases, including accessing, querying, modeling, and restructuring financial or enterprise data.
•Experience with Azure SQL or other cloud-based database environments.
•Experience with data engineering and data science techniques supporting enterprise reporting.
•Experience restructuring legacy financial data and optimizing wide tables for analytics.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including DAX and governance best practices.
•Experience designing data visualizations and implementing reporting frameworks.
•Experience with Microsoft Excel and SmartView reporting.
•Experience with financial systems.
Compensation and Benefits
•Annual salary range: $76,600 - $126,400 (Professional II profile, based on 40 hours per week).
