Sr Principal FPGA Design Engineer (Remote)

Collins Aerospace (RTX) is seeking a Sr Principal FPGA Design Engineer to join the Vision Systems Electrical Engineering team. In this role, you will lead the design, verification, and certification of complex FPGA firmware for next-generation camera systems, heads up displays, and helmet mounted displays used in both commercial and military aircraft.

This is a fully remote position based in the United States. U.S. citizenship is required.

What You Will Do

• •Develop complex FPGA designs for aerospace vision systems
• •Define and capture requirements for new firmware designs using enterprise tools such as Jama
• •Create conceptual designs including block level architecture, clock and reset distribution strategies, and bandwidth/latency analyses
• •Create detailed RTL designs of FPGA firmware using VHDL
• •Perform RTL synthesis and implementation using FPGA tools such as Vivado
• •Support board level integration of FPGA firmware
• •Create verification artifacts using VHDL, SystemVerilog, and UVM
• •Present FPGA firmware designs to certification authorities
• •Oversee efforts and mentor less experienced designers

What You Will Learn

• •In-depth knowledge of aircraft vision systems including video display and camera systems
• •Complete lifecycle of FPGA firmware design and verification for advanced aerospace applications
• •Project management skills including project planning, schedule preparation, and status reporting

Required Qualifications

• •Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field
• •Advanced FPGA development and verification experience
• •FPGA design experience in video or image processing
• •U.S. citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

• •Experience with Mentor Graphics Questasim
• •Proficiency in VHDL
• •SystemVerilog and UVM experience for FPGA verification
• •Experience working in Linux/Unix environments
• •Excellent hands-on laboratory skills in testing and verifying FPGA designs in hardware, with familiarity with a wide range of test equipment
• •Aerospace background
• •Experience with aerospace certification of designs including familiarity with RTCA DO-254

Compensation

Salary range: 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD, depending on experience, education, and other factors.
